Event Description
Are you considering joining an accelerator program for your edtech start-up? Want to hear an insider’s perspective on several of the top accelerator programs? Enjoy this “Ask Me Anything” event with Aly Murray, an edtech nonprofit founder who leveraged six accelerator programs to establish her online tutoring organization, UPchieve.
Aly Murray is the founder and executive director of UPchieve. UPchieve is an edtech nonprofit that provides free, 24/7 online tutoring to low-income high school students. Using their app, students can request and get paired with a live, volunteer tutor in under 5 minutes. UPchieve’s long-term vision is to democratize access to academic support so that all students, regardless of income, have an equal opportunity to finish high school, attend college, and achieve upward mobility. So far, they’ve matched +35,000 on-demand tutoring requests from +8,000 students in all 50 states. Their work has also been recognized by Forbes and TIME and funded by the Gates Foundation.
To get to where they are today, UPchieve has participated in six different accelerator programs: Y Combinator, Acumen Civic Accelerator, Visible Connect, AT&T Aspire, Blue Ridge Labs @ Robin Hood, and Fast Forward. Aly Murray will share her reasoning for joining these programs and talk about how the programs helped her to shape UPchieve. Aly will share her thoughts about what conditions might make an accelerator program a good choice, how to choose the right one, and what qualities accelerator programs are seeking in their applicants
