Policy Manager

Position: Policy Manager at the Learning Agency

Location: Remote/home office anywhere in the United States (Willing to work ET hours)

The Learning Agency is hiring a Policy Manager to support team members with policy research, project management, and communications. The individual will advise on legislative strategy, manage timelines and logistics, track progress to goals, draft client-facing communications, and support grant reporting across multiple projects.

Ideal candidates will be extremely organized, have a keen attention to detail, are comfortable working quickly, and possess a desire to learn new skills. The position will provide the individual with significant exposure to trends in the education and technology fields and has high potential for career growth.

The Learning Agency is a consultancy firm that helps organizations harness the power of learning. The organization works with a variety of organizations (like foundations, universities, and non-profits) to develop and publicize high-quality research, programs, and products.

Mindsets, Duties and Responsibilities: 

The Policy Manager will engage in diverse projects. The following section describes desired mindsets, skills and the types of responsibilities you’d hold in the role. 

Policy Support

You have experience with legislative strategy and can be a thought partner to the Policy Director. You enjoy doing policy research and can synthesize your findings succinctly. You will readily take on administrative tasks, as you understand their importance to policy work. In this role, you’ll:

  • Engage in policy research to inform the Learning Agency’s policy work, including the development of ideas for legislation.
  • Synthesize research findings in the form of internal memos.
  • Support the planning and execution of meetings and events to advance policy goals.
  • Carry out administrative tasks that support the Learning Agency’s policy and coalition work.

Content Creation & Communication

You can write for different audiences, and are excited to research and learn. You know how to adapt the text for a newsletter, website, email or social media, and can craft a strong call to action. In this role, you’ll:

  • Draft public-facing collateral and promotional materials such as one-pagers, decks, and reports.
  • Research and draft memos such as policy briefs, backgrounders, or talking points.
  • Support the development and implementation of communications and marketing plans.

Community Building & Events

You’re excited to coordinate logistics, develop compelling content to engage a community, and keep all the balls in the air. You know that when one thing changes, we’ve got 10 other documents to update. In this role, you’ll:

  • Support project leads to plan events by designing detailed program agendas, brainstorming speakers, and drafting talking points.
  • Draft clear content to excite participants and community-members and ensure they have timely, detailed information to engage.
  • Manage logistics for virtual meetings and in-person meetings.

Candidate Requirements:  

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications, knowledge, and skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3-5 years of professional work experience
  • Experience in education policy or advocacy – Capitol Hill experience is a plus
  • Exceptional organizational skills and keen attention to detail
  • Exemplary follow-through and flexibility, especially in the face of unexpected challenges
  • Comfort communicating with and adapting content for diverse audiences
  • Experience researching, writing, and editing effective, creative, and error-free content
  • Passion for educational equity
  • Experience with Microsoft and Google Drive platforms

Compensation:

Salary is commensurate with experience.
